Can I transfer my maximum no claims bonus and keep it protected?
Yes it is possible to protect your no claim bonus.

Top

Can I get a discount if I have any security fittings?
Alarms and immobilisers which are fitted at manufacturing stage are accounted for in the policy and therefore an additional discount is usually not applicable. Additional fittings such as Thatcham approved immobilisers, and other added security systems lessen the risk of the motorcycle being stolen, and can lead to a discount in the insurance premium. Let us know what is in place and we can advise you specifically.

What types of insurance cover are available?
Comprehensive Cover. As well as the cover provided under TPFT
•    Accidental and malicious damage to the insured vehicle.
Third Party Fire & Theft. As well as the cover provided under TPO, TPFT also includes the following:
•    Damage by fire, lightening or explosion (non terrorist action).
•    Damage either during attempted theft or while it is stolen.
•    Stolen and not recovered.
Third Party
•    This is the minimum level of insurance required to ride your motorbike on the road.
•    The policy covers liability for third party damage and costs for injury to third parties.
•    There is no cover for damage to your motorcycle.

Do you insure people with accidents or convictions?
Yes we offer very competitive rates to all riders, including drivers with motoring convictions or poor claims history.

Top

What do I do if I need to make a claim?
Most insurers operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. More information will be given in your policy booklet.

Top
When would I be allowed to ride another bike?
Each case is individually rated and you would need to advise at quotation stage if this option is required. Your certificate of insurance will list if you are covered to drive other bikes.
Top

Would my policy allow me to ride in Europe?
Normally Yes! Please, however, check your policy. In addition we offer breakdown insurance to cover riding in Europe. Please contact us for more details.

Top
What is an excess?
An excess is an amount you may pay when making a claim; however, if the claim was not your fault, you may recover your excess from the party at fault. Any excesses which apply are displayed on your motorcycle insurance schedule or in the attached policy booklet.
Top

Can I have more than one motorcycle on my policy?
You may be able to insure more than one motorcycle on a policy. It depends on the insurer rules. You may need to take up a different motorcycle insurance for each vehicle. If you choose to do this, you get an extra 5% off the price of the additional policies.

Top
Do I need to report any car accidents when obtaining my motorcycle quotation?
Any car accidents, claims or losses need to be advised since they are material facts. They are considered separately from your motorcycle cover but insurers need to know the detail. Any motoring convictions also need to be reported immediately.
Top

Which security devices can help to reduce my motorcycle premium?
Insurers recognise some manufacturer fitted devices, which were fitted at the time your motorcycle was produced. In addition, if you have had any other systems professionally fitted they may attract a discount. Please check with us for full details.

What happens if I have an accident?
All claims or potential claims need to be reported as soon as possible and details of each insurers procedure will be listed in your policy document. If you buy comprehensive motorcycle insurance cover, insurers can arrange for your vehicle to be recovered. Be sure to take details of any other parties involved or injured together with their vehicle details, the location and time as well as importantly details on any independent witnesses.

If you use the approved repairers you do not need to worry about estimates. If your motorcycle needs repairing, your insurers will instruct the approved repairers and keep you updated as to the progress towards getting you back on the road again. Any repairs and payments are settled directly and all repairs are guaranteed.

If you have a Third party or Third Party Fire & Theft cover you will need to report the incident for information only. If the accident was non-fault then you should claim the cost of any repairs from the third party insurers.

If you took our legal protection cover then the Legal Protection insurer should be able to make arrangements for you which could include credit hire and repair to get you moving sooner rather than later.
What happens if I need to make a claim?
•    Ring your insurers direct via the number listed in your policy.

If you cannot find the details contact us and we can advise you. In addition we ask that you keep us informed since insurers do not. If we are aware of a claim we are able to offer additional advice and assistance to ensure your interests are protected at all times.

What is legal cover?
Our legal cover provides legal advice via a 24 hour, 365 days a year helpline. Legal cover provides assistance to recover uninsured losses (such as excess, medical losses or loss of earnings). Insurers will provide up to £50,000 for legal costs to pursue a case after a motoring accident.

Can I ride abroad using my policy?
You need to check your policy to confirm your insurers particular view. If you cannot see the information listed there then merely let us know and we will be able to advise.
Top

Do I need "business use" to ride to work?
No, under our motorcycle insurance policy you can usually ride your motorcycle back and forth to one permanent place of work using social, domestic and commuting cover if you asked for commuting at the time your quotation was arranged.

If you need to use your motorcycle to visit other sites of business during the working day, we can increase your cover to include business use. If you are a courier you will need specialist insurance. Please contact us.

Are my helmet and leathers covered on this policy?
Unfortunately we are unable to cover your protective clothing and helmet on your motorcycle insurance, although your household insurance may cover these items. If you need household insurance click here (link to household)

What should I do if I need to make a change to my insurance?
Contact us and we will make the necessary changes and send you our updated documentation by email or in the post. If in doubt about a change, please let us know anyway and we will guide you.

Top
What type of changes do I need to tell you about?
You must tell us of changes to all material facts. By material facts we mean things like change in your name, your mileage, modifications to your motorcycle, any driving convictions you have received, accidents or claims or change to the use of the motorcycle.

I have heard that if I leave my keys in the motorcycle that I am not covered on my insurance. Is this true?
Yes, that is correct. If you leave your keys in/on your motorcycle even if it is only to pop out and pay for your petrol or drop off a letter and your motorcycle is stolen, your motorcycle will not be covered. So remember always to take your keys with you or make sure someone stays with the motorcycle or it could prove an expensive couple of minutes!

Top
Can I ride other people's motorcycles under my own insurance?
It depends on your policy. In most cases the answer is no. The Driving Other Motorcycle extension has historically allowed Policyholders only to ride other motorcycles that do not belong to them and are not hired to them under a hire purchase agreement, subject to the owner's permission. The cover provided is Third Party only which does not cover damage to the vehicle they are riding, but does cover liability for damage and injury to third parties. This cover operates only whilst the Policyholder is riding and was designed to be used in emergency situations only.
If you want to add an additional temporary motorcycle or an additional rider to your insurance you can contact us and we can arrange for the motorcycle or rider to be added to your insurance subject to normal restrictions. We will then send you an amended schedule showing the additional motorcycle or rider.
If you need to be added to a family or friends vehicle in order to be able to ride it they can contact their insurer who will be able to arrange this for them (subject to normal restrictions).

I am taking my motorcycle off the road for a period of time – do I still have to pay my insurance premium?
If your motorcycle will be out of use for a continuous period of 28 days or more, and this is not as a result of any claim or loss covered by this insurance, we may be able to suspend your cover. Any refund for the laid-up period will normally be deducted from the next renewal premium you have from us.

Top
I have been involved in an incident but am unsure of my legal position – what help can you provide?
Our legal insurers will give you confidential legal advice over the telephone on any personal legal matter in relation to the use of your motorcycle.
We will tell you what your legal rights are, what course of action is available to you and whether these can best be implemented by you or whether you need to consult with a lawyer. This is subject to your having taken out our legal protection cover prior to any incident. Lines are open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
